If you are reading this, then you are probably curious as to who I am, right?
So let me introduce myself, my name is Paul (the one giving you the thumbs up in the picture) and I am the guy behind The Moneysmith website and on this page, I will give a bit of a background on myself and why I started this website.
My background is a little different to most people’s! I never knew what I wanted to do when I left school and went from dead end job to dead end job until I went back to college to study business in 2008 aged 21, as I wanted to work in finance, preferably in the City of London.
However things didn’t work out as I wanted and even though I left with a Business BTEC Level with (passed with Distinction!), I didn’t really want to go to uni, so I started planning for a career in accountancy as it was something I found very easy to do and accountants aren’t badly paid but the thought of sitting behind a desk all day crunching numbers filled me with dread (I hate working in offices!), so it was time to re-think.
This lead to me getting a job with a pay-day lender (remember those?) and while most the job was incredibly dull and boring, we did get to buy gold and lots of it and this sparked an interest in me as I loved buying gold and seeing all the different pieces coming through the door and my life in the jewellery trade was just beginning.
Following a stint at a pawnbrokers, I launched my own online jewellery business in the September 2012 and would go on to run this for over 7 years until closing down at the end of 2019.
Starting The Moneysmith
After closing down my jewellery business, I wanted to try something new and started both a YouTube channel and a blog called EcommerceGold, both of which I started as I felt that the UK was badly underserved when it came to genuine advice and general information about starting an ecommerce business here in the UK.
And while both have been relatively successful, I kind of lost my way of helping UK businesses, so in the summer of 2021, I launched The Moneysmith, a website helping people start businesses here in the UK but also talking about personal finance as this has been something that I have been passionate about for a long time.
Where did The Moneysmith Name Come From?
No, it’s not my surname, it is just a name that I have liked for a while and it incorporates two of the things that I am most passionate about:
- Money – whether it is building online business, income sources or just making the most of what you have, I just love all things to do with money.
- Smithing – this comes from my love of jewellery and seeing so many amazing Goldsmiths at work over the years and this is also something that I am learning to do myself.
It is also a play on things like Goldsmith and Blacksmith who makes amazing things from raw materials, which I though was somewhat clever.
Anyway, I hope that this page has given you a little bit of an insight into me and my website, I hope it wasn’t too painful to read either!
